Wave of light walks 2018

Both West Kent and Medway, and East Kent Sands will be hosting wave of light walks this year.

Bluewater wave of light walk

On October 15th we will be holding a lantern walk around the lake at Bluewater shopping centre to mark the international babyloss awareness week wave of light. The wave of light is an annual event, and bereaved families around the world are asked to light a candle at 7pm and leave it burning for one hour. By doing this a wave of light passes around the world in memory of all the babies, gone too soon.

We will meet for our walk at 6.45pm ready to light our candles at 7pm and set off on our walk around the lake. We will stop along the way to have readings, read our babies names and drop flowers into the lake. The event will be slightly different to previous years, with more of the evening spent at the beach area. All are welcome to attend, though please do let us know you are coming so we can get enough flowers. Please bring a lantern and candle, and also a torch as it is quite dark at the rear of the lake.

We will meet for the sands lantern walk at the small lake next to Village Crescent. If you are coming from the A2, you will need to head down the hill from the A2 and then take the left lane into Bluewater avoiding the tighter left turn. Follow the road around the outside of the Bluewater park until you come to the first roundabout (you will have travelled over several roundabouts on bridges by this point). At this roundabout, turn left into village crescent, then turn right almost immediately into the car park.

Bluewater has created a nature trail, which has a similar route to our walk, To get to the meeting place for the walk, you can follow the signs for the nature trail, which include green paw prints on the floor from the area outside Zizzi's. These will lead you to the lake of reflections, where we meet.

If you are coming by bus, you will need to walk through Marks and Spencers into the shopping mall, and then turn left into Thames walk. Follow Thames walk to House of Fraser and then follow the mall to the right into Guildhall. Turn left before Neals Yard, into ‘The Village’. Walk through the village and exit next to Zizzi’s. Outside Zizzi’s there is a bridge which leads to the carpark, cross the bridge and then follow the footpath around to your right, this footpath leads to our meeting point. There is a new nature trail which is well sign posted, and which will bring you to the start of our walk.

We cannot allow the release of sky lanterns at this event.
All children remain the responsibility of their parents at this event, and must be closely supervised.
