Wave of light walks 2016

Both West Kent and Medway, and East Kent Sands will be hosting wave of light walks this year.

Bluewater wave of light walk

On October 15th we will be holding a lantern walk around the lake at Bluewater shopping centre to mark the international babyloss awareness week wave of light. The wave of light is an annual event, and bereaved families around the world are asked to light a candle at 7pm and leave it burning for one hour. By doing this a wave of light passes around the world in memory of all the babies, gone too soon.

We will meet for our walk at 6.45pm ready to light our candles at 7pm and set off on our walk around the lake. We will stop along the way to have readings, read our babies names and drop flowers into the lake. All are welcome to attend, though please do let us know you are coming so we can get enough flowers. Please bring a lantern and candle. We have some battery operated plastic votives for children to hold, so please let us know if you would like one and we will save one.

We will meet for the sands lantern walk at the small lake next to Village Crescent. If you are coming from the A2, you will need to head down the hill from the A2 and then take the left lane into Bluewater avoiding the tighter left turn. Follow the road around the outside of the Bluewater park until you come to the first roundabout (you will have travelled over several roundabouts on bridges by this point). At this roundabout, turn left into village crescent, then turn right almost immediately into the car park. We will have someone waiting in this car park under the big blue sign to direct you across to our meeting point.

If you are coming by bus, you will need to walk through Marks and Spencers into the shopping mall, and then turn left into Thames walk. Follow Thames walk to House of Fraser and then follow the mall to the right into Guildhall. Turn left before Molton Brown, into 'The Village'. Walk through the village and exit next to Zizzi's. Outside Zizzi's there is a bridge which leads to the carpark, cross the bridge and then follow the footpath around to your right, this footpath leads to our meeting point.

Ashford Wave of Light Walk

On October 15th we will be holding a lantern walk around the memorial gardens in Ashford, where Sands has a special section dedicated to babies taken too soon. The wave of light is an annual event, and bereaved families around the world are asked to light a candle at 7pm and leave it burning for one hour. By doing this a wave of light passes around the world in memory of all the babies, gone too soon.

We will meet for our walk at 6.45pm ready to light our candles at 7pm. We will then have the chance to write a message on a wooden heart to hang on our lit memorial tree. We will then start our short walk around the gardens. We will stop along the way to listen to readings/poems- if you would like to read one pleas let us know. We will then walk back to our garden and read out the names of all babies who have a stone in the garden, and the names of any other babies we have been asked to read out. If you do not have an engraved stone and would like your babies name read out, please let us know their name. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please let us know you are coming so we make sure we have enough hearts available to hang on our tree. Please feel free to bring a lantern and candle and we will have some you can use.

We will meet for the Sands lantern walk at the baby memorial garden. It is very close to the town centre with lots of free parking and is also easily accessible by bus and just a 5 minute walk from the train station. If you have any questions about the event or the garden, or to let us know you will be coming please let us know via facebook or email ashfordbabygarden@hotmail.co.uk or call/text 07547 195791.

We hope you are able to join us on this very special evening.
