News about Kent Sands.

In early March 2015 we held a special meeting for parents to share their experiences with midwives and student midwives as part of our improving care work. We held several discussions regarding specific topics in groups and all those that attended felt the meeting was extremely beneficial.

Photography training In February 2015 we funded a Gifts of Remembrance photography training for Medway Maritime hospital. This training should improve the quality of photographs families should receive. www.giftsofremembrance.co.uk

Special Cot donations - We have donated 4 special cooled blankets to local hospital maternity units. These units will allow bereaved families a little more time with their precious stillborn babies, and a little more time to say goodbye. We hope that they will not be needed often, but that they will bring some comfort to the families who use them. Huge thanks to everyone who has donated or raised money for us, It is you that has made these donations possible.

Midwifery Student Training - We fund a rolling programme of Sands bereavement training for Student midwives at Greenwich and Canterbury universities. Our aim is to ensure that all student midwives trained in Kent receive this valuable training and have the opportunity to participate.

Sands / bliss/ RCN joint conference- in September we sponsored 16 midwives, neonatal nurses and support staff from around the county to attend the joint Sands/bliss/RCM 'Uncertainty and loss in maternity and neonatal care' conference. This conference was very interesting and thought provoking.
